13C NMR Study of Poly[(−)-menthyl methacrylate]

ABSTRACT:  Microtacticity and dynamics in solution of radically initiated radically poly[(−)-methyl methacrylate] was investigated by 13C NMR, in different solvents and at different field strengths. Resonance assignments were made from 13C dynamic measurements and by comparison with suitable high and low molecular weight model compounds. The correlation times evaluated from relaxation time (T1) and Nuclear Overhauser Enhancement Factors (NOEF) measurements are in agreement with an isotropic overall tumbling model. The splittings of the carbonyl signal, attributed to pentad stereosequences, allow to determine the main chain stereochemistry (Pm=0.366).
